About the Artist

Tracy was born in 1970 in Chicago, IL to a creative and artistic family; her mother a painter, her grandparents musicians.  Her family moved to Michigan when she was 9 years old and she has lived there since. Tracy began painting while studying psychology at Eastern Michigan University. Although painting became her primary passion, her background in psychology continues to inform her work today. Tracy married in 2004 and currently resides in Howell, MI.

About the Work

I am first and foremost an expressionist and my work is autobiographical in nature. Figures have always been my favorite subject as I find them easy to connect and relate to. I work intuitively and abstractly, allowing the background to represent the cumulative effect of thoughts and emotions on a person. I am interested in how this fluid and ever changing context shapes our perceptions and interactions with the world around us.

Inspiration for my work can be found anywhere, but most often in everyday experiences. Anything that stirs, strikes a chord, resonates with me. I am a firm believer in allowing content and meaning to form and evolve on its own with little conscious involvement from me. I find this allows for a more complex and authentic expression that is more about discovery than description.

During my time as an artist I have painted my experiences of love and loss, pride and humility, freedom and constraint, excitement and fear, pain and peace. Each painting has an individual story depicting the weaving together of multiple emotions to explore how they give form to and define an experience.
